My work expresses through geometry my love of movement and color. A principal focus is on the optical qualities of color. A surrounding yellow or red can influence orange just as purple can be affected by red or blue. The interaction of colors is most important. The use of complimentary colors creates an especially intense “push/pull” effect. Artwork with black, white and grays can produce a strong sense of action. The works of Seurat and Albers have been instrumental in inspiring my work. Integration and balance play a role in the inherent meditative quality of the art. The multiple parts increase the potential for further alignments. Through the introduction of choice, visual possibilities expand.
Ms. Rohrer was educated at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Harvard University and the Silvermine Guild Center for the Arts. Her work has been included in Art of the Northeast USA exhibitions (Silvermine Guild Center for the Arts), Tri-state juried exhibitions (Katonah Museum of Art), Connecticut Art Annual competitions (Stamford Museum and Nature Center) and Faber Birren National Color Award Shows (Stamford Art Association). Honors received have been the Elizabeth L. Greeley Prize from New Haven Paint and Clay, Best in Show and the Golden Color Award from the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, the Liquitex Color Award from the Connecticut Women Artists and awards in sculpture and painting from the Stamford Art Association. Solo exhibitions have been held in Connecticut at the Silvermine Guild Arts Center in New Canaan; Art/Place in Southport; the Landmark Lobby Gallery, Art/Ex Gallery, the Center for the Arts at Rich Forum and the Palace Theater in Stamford; and in New York at Noho Gallery in New York City and at the Hiram Halle Memorial Library in Pound Ridge. Rohrer’s work has also been shown in numerous group shows in New York City as well as in Fairfield and Westchester Counties.
