My work involved an exploration of matriarchal history and mythology. The archetypal use of the vessel to symbolize women's fertility carries powerful meaning. The dissecting and multiplicity of the abstracted female form in my monotypes suggests many generations of knowledge and life experience, both individual and collective.

In ancient cultures as in contemporary time, the vessel has been the container for all aspects of survival -- water, wine, food, medicine, for example. Religious ceremonies use the vessel in their rituals, perpetuating its use in the celebration of the life force. As a vessel for nurturing and bearing children women are the containers of the soul and life.
